Bar Le Mal Nécessaire is open daily from 4:30 PM to 2:00 AM, Sunday through Thursday, and until 3:00 AM on weekends (Friday and Saturday nights)

Bar Le Mal Nécessaire is located in the Quartier international de Montréal on rue Saint-Alexandre between rue Viger O. and de La Gauchetière O. We are conveniently located between the Palais des congrès convention center and Square-Victoria.

The bar is conveniently located within walking distance to several hotels including: Humaniti, Westin, Intercontinental, W, Monville, AC, Courtyard, Embassy Suites, and Doubletree, making it easy for visitors to find a great cocktail bar nearby.
Do I need to make a reservation? + -
While reservations are optional, we highly recommend them, especially for groups of five or more, to ensure you experience the best cocktails in Montreal without the wait. You can book through Resy.
Please note that reservations are not available on Fridays and Saturdays, as we operate on a first-come, first-served basis. However, even on our busiest nights, the wait for a table rarely exceeds 15 minutes.

Our most popular signature cocktails are the Champagne Papi and Le Mal Nécessaire – two signature cocktails that capture the essence of our Montreal bar experience.

We offer non-alcoholic versions of many of our signature cocktails. Consult the “Virgin Cocktails” section of our menu for a full range of delicious, alcohol-free options.
Private Event Questions
How can I book a private event at Bar Le Mal Nécessaire? + -
To book a private event, please write to info@lemalnecessaire.com with all the relevant information including the event date, start time, end time, number of people, food and drink requirements. We will respond within 24 hours to assist with event planning and discuss pricing. Once the details are confirmed, we will send you an invoice for the payment (whether it is a deposit or the full amount, depending on the agreed terms). Please note that the booking will only be confirmed once this payment has been received.
What is the capacity of your private event space? + -
Our private event space can accommodate up to 65 guests, with a minimum of 25 required for booking. If you would like to rent the entire bar for a larger event, we can accommodate up to 200 guests, with a minimum of 120 required.
What catering options are available for private events? + -
We offer a variety of catering options to suit your private event, whether it’s an intimate gathering or a large corporate event. You can choose from our freshly made in-house menu or work with our exclusive catering partner, Traiteur Brera.
Is there a minimum duration for booking the private room? + -
A minimum rental of 3 hours is required for booking the private event space.
Can I bring my own DJ or entertainment? + -
Bar Le Mal Nécessaire hires DJs every night to curate the evening’s music from 6pm onwards. If you’re renting the entire space, you can bring your own DJ or live band with prior approval. However, for the private room, since the music is connected throughout the bar, we handle the DJ booking to ensure a seamless experience.
Can I bring my own alcoholic beverages for a private party? + -
No. Alcohol must be purchased directly at the bar. For special requests, we can always order the specific alcohol for you to serve during your event given enough lead time.
Can I visit the private room before booking? + -
Yes. You are welcome to stop by during our hours of operation to see the event venue. Please ask a member of our staff to show you the private room.
Do you provide tables and chairs for seated dinners? + -
Yes, seating options as shown in our photos are included with the rental. Our event planner can help you arrange the best setup for your event in our private space.
Is security required for large events? + -
Security is required for events over 100 people at an additional cost.
What is the recommended lead time for booking the private room? + -
We recommend booking the private event venue at least 2 weeks in advance to ensure availability and proper planning.
What is your cancellation policy for private events? + -
Deposits for private events are non-cancellable.

What steps do you take to reduce waste in your bar? + -
Our commitment to eco-friendly practices extends to all aspects of our operations, ensuring that every part of our ingredients is put to good use before composting. For example, we use avocado pits from Capital Tacos for our Falernum syrup and aquafaba from Mandy’s Salads instead of egg whites.
